An event within the 3rd Linz University Weeks: Global ConnAct 2025
We are facing a complex, multi-layered ecological crisis that is already leading to the extinction of countless species and the destruction of habitats worldwide, claiming millions of lives every year. The ecological crisis is not “anthropogenic”, but is caused by capitalism and the state. But not all human societies are based on domination and exploitation, and in all societies that are based on such principles, there are cultures of resistance. The discussion will highlight the cultural characteristics and organisational methods that enable communities to act in an ecocentric manner: These are also the cultures that anticipate how we can survive the most serious threat humanity has ever faced. Peter Gelderloos reports on his experiences and encounters in November 2025, around COP 30 and the initiative „Weaving Paths from Colonial Apocalypse to Ecological Revolution“.

Peter Gelderloos is an anarchist and independent researcher, currently at the ifk International Research Centre for Cultural Studies at the University of Art and Design Linz in Vienna. He has participated in land struggles in urban and rural areas, for free access to housing and against gentrification, for ecological gardens, orchards and food forests, against extractive and ecologically destructive capitalist enterprises, for transformative justice and against the police and prison system, for a collective, rooted historical memory and against the alienation and enforced amnesia of capitalism, in solidarity with indigenous liberation struggles and against the state in all its forms. Jelena Saf is a 27-year-old activist from Linz. From food sharing and youth work to non-violent civil resistance against local environmental and climate policies, she is committed to a more just and connected life in her homeland.
